ANALYSIS OF THERMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AVALANCHE - TRANSIT DIODE IN TERMS OF SHORT PULSES

Determination of inaccessible energy characteristics of a pulsed diode oscillator of the value of the pulse width is shown. Microwave power level generated by the ATD, is mainly determined by four parameters: Unp breakdown voltage, operating current density J0, the resistance Rs of the diode losses and the area of the p-n junction S. J0 operating current density is limited by the maximum allowable power dissipation per unit area of the diode and is determined by the temperature of the p-n junction, heat dissipation efficiency and mode of operation. Ability to create high-power pulsed radiation sources depend on the availability of relevant semiconductor devices and summing circuit. The estimation of the permissible values of the pulsed power generator by changing the active semiconductor diode temperature during the pulse duration. To fulfill the requirements of coherence and stability of amplitude and phase settings in the pulse mode using an external sync pulse generators highly stable continuous signal. As the input source using ATD generator, with a stabilizing high-Q cavity resonator transmission type. Determination of achievable energy characteristics of the generator requires a knowledge of the temperature of the diode mode, depending on its geometry and parameters of pulsed power mode.
